Sara Metts, EdS, LPC


Sara has lived in Joplin for most of her life. She is married and has four grown children, one son and three daughters, with her husband of 32 years. She has enjoyed many endeavors in her life which have included parenting, being a stay-at-home mother, working in a residential setting for children in state custody, teaching, volunteering in her children’s schools and in her church, providing infant and child care, along with her career in counseling.

Sara graduated from the former Parkwood High School in Joplin. She graduated from Missouri Southern State College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology in May 1989. She went on to Graduate school at Pittsburg State University and received her Master’s degree in Psychology in July 1996, and her Education Specialist degree in School Psychology in July 1997.

Sara has been a mental health provider in Joplin since 2012. She has also been a school counselor for an area school providing care, education, and help to the students, school personnel, and also helped establish their counseling department.

Sara has experience working with children, teenagers and adults. She treats a variety of clinical issues including but not limited to depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, and life adjustment issues. Sara incorporates the use of relaxation strategies and mindfulness training into her therapy techniques. She enjoys helping other learn strategies and techniques to help them in making improvements in their lives and to lead productive and fulfilling lives.

Sara enjoys time with her family and friends, her pets, doing artwork and a variety of creative projects, reading, exercise, being outside, and self-improvement.
